Love in times of crisis

You might not think so, but this is actually a fantastic time in which to live. It’s scary, too, and not in a fun kind of way, but all this is the sum total of all the weird and wild things that have been going on for decades, for centuries even, and if, as a species, we’d like to survive, and not just survive but actually prosper, there has never been a better time to start thinking about what makes for the good life. Because, where we’re currently at, is obviously not the good life.

As I see it, humanity has two options. We can continue down this road, and turn society into a prison for all, with maybe Universal Basic Income to sweeten the bitter pills that will have to be swallowed; or, as a species, we can finally wake up to the idea that if the earth is a cake, then obviously, you can’t burn down your cake and eat it.

For centuries now, people have fought nature, just as they have fought each other. Kings and armies have done their rape and pillage, and in the modern age the kings of industry have poisoned the earth, and we were all happily living in a facsimile of what once was solid but what has since turned into plastic soup. It wasn’t sustainable, and we knew it. What we need as a species now, is a better, kinder life. We are already living in times where drone-warfare is accepted and machines are making decisions on life and death. We are going through times where diseases that were never a human concern, have now become deadly threats. Meeting one’s friends and relatives has become a dangerous pastime. All that is a result of choices made. And so, now is the time to make a different choice. It’s been enough. It’s time to begin something new.

This is in fact the perfect time to consider what is truly good, and it’s a fine time to remedy what has gone wrong. And each and every single one of us, we can start right now. We can change from the kind of people that we have been into a new kind of people.

Now, before this crisis is over, we need to talk about how to re-imagine society so that it becomes clear for all to see that violence and greed do not serve us. Within the old societies, we have to build a new society. We have to begin to expose and undermine the structures that have been erected along the current road to nowhere. That very road itself needs to be broken into pieces, so that it can no longer cover up the rivers of love and beauty. It’s time for a revolution of kindness.

I propose that, at last, the notion of this world being a single, living organism is accepted. That is not so far-fetched. In fact, it’s really quite simple, like this: the Cosmos exists, this we can be sure of. The earth is inside of the Cosmos, it’s not going anywhere, and so it IS the Cosmos. And people come from the earth, they feed themselves by what the earth has to offer, and when the time has come, they will return to the earth. So, really, people are just another way the Cosmos has taken shape. And because people have thoughts, hopes, and ideas, this means the Cosmos also has thoughts, hopes, and ideas - because people are merely one of the ways the Cosmos has taken shape. It is all one, and it is all conscious.

What you see around you in nature, is yourself. What surrounds you is the way the consciousness of the world expresses itself in all shapes and forms. Everything is connected. The clouds are connected to the rivers, just as the rivers are connected to the mountains; just as we, people, are connected to the earth itself. All that lives and breathes, is connected to every other living thing. In fact, if anything, that is what this crisis is showing us: we are connected to nature and nature has not forgotten about us, either.
So I propose to collectively take a deep breath, and see what A New Utopia might look like. After all, if we are to find a new way of living, then we need a plan.

True luxury comes with being in a state of tranquility, while completely aware of the abundance the world has to offer. A new Utopia comes with a sense of being able to touch upon the entire world. You are a body, and each and every single body is connected to the body of the world. Luxury means that you feel you are connected to your surroundings, and to your fellow beings. Luxury is seeing that it makes sense that you are here. Life is luxurious if it allows you to enjoy the beauty and the pleasure your body has to offer.

The earth is where all of us come from, and it is where all of us shall return. The battle against nature will be lost; we are currently seeing the first signs of our defeat. So, why not stop fighting? Why not stop fighting over possessions as if anyone can possess anything? All possessions will be left behind when death comes, why burn down the earth that sustains us in order to possess something that you can’t hold on to anyway? And then, why not stop this fighting against ourselves while we’re at it?

The earth is a body, too. The earth is a living thing, that wants to breathe and breed; the earth is a luscious body, that wants to feel it is alive, that wants to stretch out its limbs and wrap its tentacles around all the living things. We should allow ourselves to be inspired by that luscious body, and begin to finally enjoy what has been given to us so generously. Enjoy, not exploit.

Endings are also beginnings. Ending the destruction of nature, means that we will have to begin to scale down. We will have to begin to let the natural world renew itself; instead of spraying the fields with poison, farmers will have to return to a sustainable way of growing sturdy crops; forests need to be allowed to stand and grow and regrow for the centuries to come. I’m not being naive. If we treat the planet well, the planet shall nourish and sustain us. If we go for a life of electronics, destructive industries, and continuous warfare, we may be able to survive as a species, maybe; but as individuals, we’ll be living a nightmare. So I suggest we accept that the earth, the animals, plants and people, the cosmos, it is all one, and each and every single one of us has a responsibility to be kind and loving. We accept that the earth can’t be carved up any longer, and we accept that there is a limit to what any individual or individual company can possess. We accept that being nine billion people on a single planet, means we have to share; and we accept that the well-being of all people, of all living beings, and of the entire earth, is what needs to be achieved through kind and loving actions.

Ultimately, what is needed, is an awareness that life on this planet doesn’t merely involve surviving within the confines of human reality. After all, people are of the earth, and the earth is part of the Cosmos. There is a greater reality, a greater consciousness, that exists in many dimensions, and there is an ultimate dimension where all things come together. This is the Supreme Mind. In that dimension, all that is now, all that has ever been and all that will ever be, is present at all times. As a species, as humans, we can choose to be stuck in our current dimension of fear and disease, and never connect to the greatness that is available to us in the other dimensions. Or, we can connect to the Love of the Supreme Mind, by choosing to access a dimension where love, kindness, and wisdom are in abundance for all, at all times. To me, this doesn’t seem like a hard choice.

This is the perfect time to consider what is truly good, and it’s a fine time to remedy what has gone wrong. And each and every single one of us, we can start right now. We can change from the kind of people that we have been into something new. You are offered hope, so why choose despair?
